Project QUILTING Road Trip Challenge - WINNERS

It’s time to announce the winner’s of the Project Quilting Road Trip Challenge. Again, I would like to applaud everyone for their entries – I have been blown away again!

I’m going to start with the Judges winner’s.

In THIRD Place, with an average score of 8.88 is

pennyfabricart PennyFabricArt!

Here’s what the judges had to say:

Judge 1: Beautiful, beautiful work!

Judge 2: Awe inspiring. The jockeys and horses truly look in motion thanks to your shading & quilting. Love the mixture of fibers to create the look.

Judge 3: Your quilting on this piece is stunning and I really like the use of different fabrics. This piece is just so unique.

Judge 4: Beautifully done. I’d love to see it in person with the blend of fabrics you’ve used. All that texture is something that’s hard to see in pictures. Stretched on a frame is the right finish for this piece of art.

SECOND place with a score of 9.39 goes to

moranartquilts MoranArtandQuilts!

And the judges thought…

Judge 1: Great fabric choices and fussy cutting. I love how the fabrics for the “background” are the same on the left side of the road as the right. I also like how you made the road become lighter as it goes off into the distance, and being able to see through the road sign.

Judge 2: The intricacy of the design is stunning. What struck me first was the scale used to show the cars truly in motion toward the viewer. Making the Route 66 see-through rather than the customary white & black was brilliant and enhanced by the echo quilting around the emblem. I love the mixture of whimsy and more realistic imagery .

Judge 3: This quilt, to me, says “Road Trip” the best of all the entries. I just love everything about it. It takes a lot for me to give a perfect score but this, to me, is the best challenge piece since Project Quilting started!

Judge 4: Great interpretation of the theme. I love the flower fabrics in the background. Seeing through the Route 66 sign was a great idea and really adds to the quilt. I like the way it has lots going on, but conveys how each part of a trip is special.

And for first place…with a score of 9.88!

Okay…I’m going to stop for a second here – we have a first in Project Quilting – our judges winner is not only the judges favorite but ALSO THE PUBLIC’s Favorite (with 41 of the 129 votes)! This means that the first place winner will win ALL the prizes this week which includes: 4 fat quarters (their choice) from FabricAlaCarte, a $10 gift certificate from the FatQuarterShop, 2 moda charm packs of their choice from FabricsNQuilts AND another $10 gift certificate from the FatQuarterShop!

And these fabulous prizes go to…

Congrats to Ebony! Here’s what the judges had to say:

Judge 1: Absolutely incredible! Such great attention to details and that crab fabric is too cute!

Judge 2: If this were baseball, this is a homerun! Ingenious application of the theme and parameters. When I saw the map block, I was so curious why you just didn't stay on I-65, until we got to the Joe's Crab Shack explanation. Love the mixture of embroidery, appliqué, photo transfer, thread painting, and embellishing. Truly a masterpiece!

Judge 3: This is just so unique and the workmanship is amazing. What an original idea. I love it! There is so much work in this piece. The film idea show your age!

Judge 4: WOW!!! Great idea. Great execution. Great details. The film canister back is the crowning touch. A truly amazing project.

Now, there are still 2 more prizes to be chosen randomly from all the competitors (excpet LoveBug) but I won’t be able to post them until later tomorrow night or Sunday. My name pickers (Cedi & Capri) are having a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa’s tonight so mama can get ready for the Dragon Art Fair in DeForest that she will be vending at all day tomorrow (aka, me!). At that time I will also have the random generator choose the public comment winner for the $20 gift certificate to theApple.

Spread the word – the Next Challenge will be posted this Sunday (6/6) at NOON CDT!

  5. I was just blown away with these entries. I can't believe how far Project Quilting has come already.

I just spent the last two days teaching Platteville, WI at the Quilt and Sewing Expo and I handed out flyers and told people to take a look and to enter. I even used some of the quilts in a slide presentation in my lecture, "It's Time to Participate in the Challenge."

  6. Congrats to LoveBug & Moran! There were a lot of very creative entries this week. It's so fun to see everyone's interpretations of the themes.

    Thanks Kim & Judges!

  7. Congrats to all the winners, great entries and a fun theme!
