Quilter: mrswickman

This was made in Appleton, WI. When the challenge was posted I brought it to my sewing students the next day. They suggested I do something with a rainbow and a pot of gold. I said - ok!! So I went home and found in my stash strips already cut for some project I do not even remember. One of the strips was scrap from my daughters wedding quilt, one was scrap from a demo for school, rest I have no idea. Anyway, I have been sick all week with a terrible, nasty cold and have little energy for anything. But I made this in about 1 1/2 hours. I put the colors in order of ROYGBI, and the pot of gold is the gold thread I used. I had planned on making two so my husband and I would have two placemats, but I am too tired. SO, guess who gets her first placemat?? Camilla!! She received it last night.

Partly Sunny

Partly Sunny

Partly Sunny quilt (56" x 70") made in Ashland, Kentucky for Project Quilting Season 4 Challenge 6, Hooray for Spring.
This quilt uses bright yellows for springtime sunshine and greys and blacks for the stormy skies of spring and florals for the beautiful flower blooms that result. I used a pattern in the current issue of "Quick Quilts" for the block piecing. I did not follow the pattern for the layout, just turned the blocks until I liked how they looked. I have had these fabrics in my stash a long time and I'm so glad I finally made them into something I can use and enjoy.

Spring Improv

Spring Improv

Improvisationally pieced and embellished, this piece says spring to me because of the colors and floral themes. I sprinkled pretty little details across the surface like flowers sprinkled in a spring landscape.

"Tulips for Mom" - 14"x36-1/2" - Florida - I fell in love with Lori Holts "Bee in My Bonnet Row Along" (beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com)
and one day hope to make the whole quilt...but couldn't resist her "tulips" - they make me think of Spring...how perfect for this last challenge of Season 4 for Project Quilting.

Project Quilting Spring Challenge

Spring Retro Travel Bag

I made this bag for the Project Quilting Hooray for Spring challenge. What could be more springy then bright colors and getting ready for warm weather traveling. I designed this bag after one I saw on the Riley Blake website. I wanted to change up the dimensions a bit. I made a strip pieced outside then quilted it to cotton batting and Peltex. I did the same for the sides and bottom. The top has an exposed pink zipper. I added rectangle rings to guide the strap which is a long loop that wraps underneath the bag, through fabric tubes, and has an adjustable tab to shorten or lengthen the straps. It is fully lined with a fun green polka dot print and a green lime slice looking print. The bag measures at its widest 20 inches by 13 inches tall by 5.75" deep. I created my fun springy bag at my home in Lanoka Harbor, NJ. I am calling this my Spring Retro Travel Bag

Mom's Spring PQ Mug Rugs

Mom's Spring PQ Mug Rugs

My mom, Rose, decided to jump on the the Project Quilting band wagon for this last challenge of the season. She pulled some fun springy colors from my stash and made two mug rugs. She backed them with a light green that has a shimmery dot on it and quilted them with wavy lines. Her Spring Mug Rugs measure 7"x 14". Rose, my mom, made these cheery mug rugs in Lanoka Harbor, NJ
