Project QUILTING, Season 5, Challenge 5–Grocery Store

We’re onto the fifth challenge.  You know what that means, right?  This is the second to last Project QUILTING Challenge!  I don’t know about you – but Season 5 has just flown by for me!

The way you enter your projects and the way we will vote for them has recently changed…please read carefully below and plan accordingly for this new method!  There will be NO LEEWAY as far at the timing goes so make sure you know what time zone you’re in compared to me!  (I live in Wisconsin, US – Central Time Zone).  And if you have any questions or concerns about the changes please don’t hesitate to contact me!  I want this to be as user friendly as possible!!!!

Also, I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN!  I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done.  In fact, 166 quilts/quilted items have already been started and completed as a direct result of the Project QUILTING Challenges.  Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors!  The public voting poll will start right away at noon on Sunday, March 9th at NOON and go until Friday, March 14th at 8pm.   AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE!  Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!?  Can it get much better?

Before we get to the challenge – let’s see what our amazing sponsors have donated for this week!

Grocery Store

Note from Diane - About the time I was uploading my Across the Universe project last week, my husband, Frank, got it in his head that we should go on a cruise. He’s under lifting restrictions for a couple more weeks and is not good at sitting around and I certainly wasn’t going to tell him we couldn’t go. So I spent some long days and late nights finishing my Stairway to Heaven entry for the Prairie Heritage Quilt Show Ruby Jubilee Songs of the 70’s challenge. (For some reason, I thought it needed tumbling blocks in the background. Little tumbling blocks….) Then I started and finished my entry for the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild Spring challenge. Finished at 1 am, packed and gone by 11 am. No problem. So I’ll be sailing while you’re sewing this week. I hope you like the challenge I left for you.

And now…for the challenge:

grocery

  1. For your inspiration the week, make a trip to the grocery store. It can be a mega-supermarket or a little corner store or even a convenience store. Anyplace where you could buy groceries.

  2. Choose at least 3 things for inspiration. You can decide how inclusive a “thing” is. For example, a thing could be the produce department, or an apple.

  3. Be sure to tell us about your inspirations and how they influenced your quilt.

  4. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:

    • Include patchwork.

    • Include appliqué.

    • Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

  5. Your project must have a name.

  6. Please remember that these projects need to be started and FINISHED during the week of the challenge.

  7. NEW NEW NEW READ!!!  Link up either a blog post or flickr image to THIS LINK UP POST by Sunday, March 9th, 2014, at noon, CDT –OR email a picture/description of your completed project to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11am on Sunday, March 9th.

    • Please still include on your blog or flickr image of your entry a description of your creative process, including where you are (ie, I create in Madison, WI) and the size of your project.  If you decide to just directly upload your image to the link up party please email me this information so I can share it with everyone else.

    • I would still love if everyone posted to the Flickr Group as that makes making mosaics and looking over things much easier, but it is no longer required.

    • There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges.  You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!

  8. Even if you’ve been participating for years… Please email Kim at {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line so that Kim can keep you updated on the behind the scenes going-ons and get all her records straight.
