Opening Weekend of 2014 Apple Season

orchard 2I’ve been talking about it starting for weeks and this past Friday it happened – our apple orchard, Lapacek’s Orchard, opened for the 2014 season.  I’ll still be blogging about my creations throughout the season but I probably won’t get to it daily anymore.  I am going to try to share with you some ‘week in reviews’ of what’s happening at the orchard though because we do have some fun adventures on the farm.  For more details on what’s happening make sure you follow my orchard blog HERE.

One of my favorite things when we re-open for a season is seeing our regular customers again.  This guy, Don, has been coming with his lovely wife for many years to the orchard.  He made sure to put on his Lapacek’s Orchard ‘please don’t squeeze my apples’ t-shirt for opening day.  This is definitely going to be one of the ‘highlights’ of the season.  So adorable!

I also love that we get to ‘show off’ some of the new things we’ve been working on at the orchard…like our new variety tree.  We grow 60 varieties of apples at our orchard.  Now, folks can check out the variety tree before they even come in to see if apples are ‘In Season’ (red), ‘Coming Soon’ (green), or ‘See You Next Year’ (yellow).  I’ve been wanting something like this for years and Jared was inspired this year to make it.  So happy with it!

And of course, we have new mugs from Deneen Pottery for our customers to purchase.IMG_2786

I did do a little sewing for the shop too!  We don’t have carts or baskets for shopping but what we started last year is this‘add to cart’ shelving unit.  Folks can make their pile on the shelves and continue to look around or even go outside to play or wander for awhile.  Last season we just had yarn to pull across…it didn’t work too well.  This year I whipped up some quick curtains for the shelving unit.  Now, when they have their items in the unit they just pull the curtain shut and their items are saved until they’re ready!

Stay tuned to hear about more fun adventures at Lapacek’s Orchard during the 2014 season!
