Houston–Day 3

It took me a little while to get there – but on the 3rd day of our trip we spent the whole day in Texas.

We made our first stop at the quilt shop ‘It’s a Stitch’.  Not only did they have this amazing see-through Bernina on display but that had these bags of fabric called ‘Little Bits.’  They pre-cut all their fabrics into 1/2 yards, yards and 2 yard increments.  The ‘extra’ that didn’t fit into these size cuts – they put into discounted bags called ‘Little Bits’.  These are PERFECT for me – I don’t need lots of any fabric in particular … I may have done a little bit of shopping at this stop.IMG_4167

Then it was time for lunch before we headed to the next quilt shop – the Painted Pony.

Here – I found another great bin of un – the scrap bin that I could by scraps by the pound!  I may have filled up a bag or so.

IMG_4180Also – quilter, artist and author – Carolyn Konig – was a guest at the Painted Pony sharing her quilts and her new book.  She was a lovely lady and I learned lots from her!  The critters enjoyed meeting her as well!

We had a bit of time between shopping and dinner so we stopped at the ocean! IMG_4203

It was beautiful out and it felt great to stretch our legs after being on the bus for so many hours.IMG_4212

And then – it was time!  We went to preview night at the International Quilt Show!  Is saw the Red and White quilts hung and so many more beauties as well!

I took lots of pictures of the amazing quilts I saw!  Unfortunately, I didn’t do so well at making sure to get their creators names.  If you know who made the quilt – please leave a comment and I’ll be sure to edit my post to give them proper credit.

This piece was absolutely humbling!  I just LOVE it!

Another humbling piece.

This is one of my most favorite booths at the show …

I am so in love with this quilt!  I find it truly inspiring!

On preview night I also met Marie Bostwick. She writes some great books with touching stories and there just happens to be quilts involved as well!

It was a whirlwind of a day full o some great shopping, some great friends and some amazing quilts!
