Have a lot of Hearts–a Quilted Pillow

IMG_7412I decided I wanted to make a nested heart pillow for the Project QUILTING ‘Have a Heart’ Challenge.  I drew my design up on EQ7 and decided to paper piece it together.  I printed out all the templates which I then had to tape together since the paper wasn’t big enough.  Then – to keep things straight I colored in the different hearts with various colors.  It was a mess!  I’m not quite sure what I was thinking … IMG_7424But – I did it anyway.  I put together all the pieces.  IMG_7426I had a vision and this is one of those times when my vision was a bit too pink.  Wowza!  That’s a really pink quilt!!!!IMG_7446I thought about quilting it in black but multiple folks recommend that I use white to calm it down.  I had a lot of fun free motion quilting this on my bernina using aurifil thread.  I tried out lots of different designs – a different one in each heart!

IMG_7453I did not quilt in the thin black/lime green batik heart and it just sort of ‘pops’ out of the quilt this way.IMG_7457Isn’t the quilting so much fun!?IMG_7443

So … here it is – ‘Have a lot of Hearts’ – a Quilted Pillow.  It’s bright, it’s big (24” x 24”) and it’s done.  This is definitely not my favorite piece ever but I like it better than I thought I would as I realized just how ‘pink’ it was turning.IMG_7450

I used a fun printed fabric for the back too!

And since it’s a pillow!  I have an entry for the Nancy Zieman pillow challenge

  4. This is really fun. It's a lot more pink than I would normally work with in a project- well maybe. I find myself using it a lot more than I realize. Perhaps it's just one of those colors I don't like to like. Either way, your heart pillow is lovely, and I'm glad you came up with something you can use for more than one challenge.
