Scrap Quilt Challenge

Scrap Quilt Challenge Guidelines:
  • 45” x 60” minimum size
  • Entries must be completed quilts (patchwork, applique, rag quilt are all fine. It just must be a completed (quilted and bound) project)

  • Entries must be obviously (80%) scrappy.  For our challenge, prematched, precut (jelly roll and charm pack, for example) projects are not the intent and will not qualify for prizes. {using your leftover scraps from them is encouraged}
  • A Scrap is defined is a piece of fabric smaller than a fat quarter left over from a previous project either done by yourself or someone else.  (It's okay to have scraps from another person)
  • Entries must have been completed between November 15th, 2017 to December 15th, 2018.
See all the fun we had in 2016 HERE and in 2017 HERE.

  • You may enter as many quilts as you like that meet the requirements.
  • Winners are chosen at random, December 17th, 2018.  You may only win one prize.
  • Link up a picture by 8pm CST December 15th, 2018 to the bottom of this page.

Every year folks try to make this harder than it is.  We live in a complicated world.  The Scrap Quilt Challenge is designed to be easy - to let your focus be on the joy of your hobby.    It's your quilt, they are your scraps.

So, here it is.  Are you ready?  Just remember this sentence:
Make whatever your heart desires, just meet the minimum requirements above.  We are working on the honor system.  If you don't want the bad quilting mojo following you around, play fair.

When you finish, remember the last step: link up a picture of your FINISHED quilt below. Only quilts linked up are considered entered in the Challenge.  You can link up a blog post, a flickr image, or an instragram picture.  Having problems?  Check out my post:  How to Link up a Link up.  If you are still unable to link up - just EMAIL ME!  I'm happy to help you out!  (lapaceksorchard (at) gmail (dot) com)

If you're on instagram please use the hashtag: #SQC8 so we can easily find your quilts!

It's really that simple.

There are no design limitations on your challenge piece, other than the bullet points above (labels are optional-there are no quilt police here).
So gather up your scraps & start designing your masterpiece!
Please contact me if you're interested in donating any prizes for the Scrap Quilt Challenge! (you can email me at: lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com)  I'll post the goodies I collect as soon as I have something put together!

  1. I see that the quilts have to have been completed between October 2015 and November 2016. I have one that I started before that time...I have been using it as a leader and ender project. It still has a way to go-- would it be okay to complete that for this challenge? I can post pictures to show that it is still a work in progress.

    1. For sure!!!! It just has to be FINISHED between October 2015 and November 2016 ... no requirements on the start date.

  2. I have a large block made from leftovers from my swoon quilt. Can I use it as the base for the other scrappy blocks?

  3. Of course! That sounds like a great plan!

  4. Kim, I would love to post my scrap quilt but I don't have a URL. Suggestions?

    1. Paula - feel free to email me the picture and story. I'll create a post that will be able to be linked up for you! lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com

  5. Oh wow. I think I have maybe three quilt tops that would qualify....will have to start that quilting!!
